Passports

New procedure for passport applications & renewals (January 2026)
The Republic of Suriname implements e-Passports, which require biometric data, as of April 2025. For passport applications, an appointment must be made by sending an e-mail to sranan@sranan.cn. In the email please provide the passport number, name of passport holder, cellphone number. The consular affairs section of the Embassy will reply to the email with the date and time of the appointment.

Please note that passports MUST also be picked up in person by the applicant at the Embassy in Beijing.

Passport Renewals

• Persons older than 18 years:
  (1) Must have expired passport
  In case of lost/stolen: Police report & e-ID
• (2) Authenticated Birth certificate (only for those were not born in Suriname)
• (3) Residence permit

• Persons younger than 18 years:
  (1) Must have current passport with 6-8 months valid
  (2) Birth certificate (In not born in Suriname, need to provide authenticated birth ceritficate)
  (3) Both parents present at passport appointment with e-ID cards
  In case of single parent/guardian: Should provide Death certificate/Divorce certificate/Guardianship agreement

New passport applications

• Persons younger than 18 years:
  (1) Must bring authenticated birth certificate
  (2) Both parents present at passport appointment with e-ID cards and passports
  (3) In case of single parent/guardian: Death certificate/Divorce certificate/Guardianship agreement

Note: it is encouraged to bring all relevant documents related to citizenship (such as birth certificate or family book) to the appointment to encourage faster processing

Passport photo

The passport photo will be taken at the embassy. Due to the color of the background, please don’t wear in white, dark color will be suggested.

Payment

NO BANK TRANSFER TO THE EMBASSY ACCOUNT REQUIRED!

Payments can only be made during the appointment via credit card at the Embassy in Beijing.
